Inspired by the musical films of India, Bollywood dance is a dynamic blend of east and west, incorporating movements and influences as diverse as classical Indian dance and folk traditions, hip-hop, Caribbean, and Arabic dance. Following an energetic full-body warmup, students are encouraged to work together and individually to explore Bollywood-inspired choreography in more depth. Key elements of the style include foot rhythms, hand gestures (mudras), and expressive movement. Emphasis will be on performance quality, effective use of space/timing/energy, accuracy of shapes & rhythms, and adapting movements as part of a group as we create a routine to be performed at the annual Dance Showcase. For continuing students with some prior Bollywood dance or BollyX experience, or by permission of instructor.
